BIOGRAPHY

Uniquely expressive Chinese soprano, Quan Chen, has most recently been praised by respected New York opera forums as a “perfect Puccini soprano” as well as from Operawire, who described Ms. Chen as giving a “highly passionate conclusion” to her performance. 

Ms. Chen’s upcoming activities include recordings with The Vienna Chamber Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by David Wroe in 2023; Chinese Lunar New Year Spectacular VII at Carnegie Hall in 2023; Premiere International Opera at Central Park in 2022; Concert tour for 2022-2023 with the Ivy League Clubs of New York City with New York City Opera Orchestra; Kansas City Symphony Orchestra conducted by Constantine Orbelian in 2022.

Ms. Chen won the Puccini Ambassador Medal at the 2019 Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition which she was praised by the world-renowned operatic soprano, Aprile Millo, as an “extremely sensitive artist with a special and deep soul.” She has also won the first prize in The Lieder and Song International Competition of the Grand Stage International in the United States in 2018. 

Career highlights for Ms. Chen include command performances for Prime Minister Jiabao Wen (Guangzhou) and President Jintao Hu (Shanghai World Expo;) a solo performance with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra in the Spring International Music Festival celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 2019 (Shanghai Symphony Hall.) Ms. Chen also made a triumphant debut at Carnegie Hall with the sold out Chinese New Year Spectacular V in 2019 and Spectacular VI in 2020, performing with the internationally acclaimed and late tenor, Francisco Casanova, which was enthusiastically covered by The New York Times and Fox Television. 

Ms. Chen has performed in many world famous venues and concert halls, including Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra; New Jersey Festival Orchestra; Harrisburg Opera Association; Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra; Lincoln Center; New York Bryant Park; Guangzhou Gymnasium; Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra; He Luting Concert Hall; Guangdong Opera and Dance Theater National Orchestra; and Zhongshan Memorial Hall, etc. Her performance has been covered by many prestigious newspapers and magazines as Shanghai Morning Post, Xinmin Evening News, Sing Tao Daily, Music Daily, Guangzhou Daily, Yangcheng Evening News, Southern Metropolis Daily, Forbes, and Xinhua News, etc. 

Ms. Chen has performed leading roles such as, Cio-Cio San from Madama Butterfly (Puccini,) Tosca (Puccini,) Mimi and Musetta from La Bohème (Puccini,) Norina from Don Pasquale  (Donizetti,) Adina from L’elisir D’amore (Donizetti,) Contessa from Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart,) Cleopatra from Giulio Cesare (Handel,) Oscar from Un Ballo in Maschera (Verdi,) Adele from Il Pirata (Bellini,) La Muse from Les Contes D’Hoffman (Offenbach,) and Papagena from Die Zauberflöte (Mozart,) etc.

Ms. Chen is a dedicated artist who is a member of Chinese Musicians Association and Shanghai Musicians Association, she also holds two Master degrees in Vocal Performance from both Shanghai Conservatory in China, and Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
